How does the Controlled Auto Defrost work on the freezer?

The freezer uses a patented Controlled Auto Defrost with an auto defrost cycle every 6 hours at a set point of -11°F / -24°C. The refrigerator uses cycle defrost.

The unit runs on 115V, 60 Hz, drawing 1.3 Amps for the refrigerator and 1 Amp for the freezer, with a 1/6 HP refrigerator compressor and 1/8 HP freezer compressor. Please note this unit requires 2 outlets.
